Green abstract art for renewal
These abstract green paintings are a continuation of Verdant Place. A collection of fine art prints with colours drawn from the forest, that hold the energy of quiet renewal.
Aligned with the seasons, these works are about re-emerging and embracing a brand new chapter of life.
Winter gives
way to spring
Each artwork is a meditation, beginning with presence with the colours.
Often unconsciously drawn from natural spaces, as I look through photographs later on, I can see that the verdant hues on the page were collected on walks in the forest.
Archived in memory, appearing now in the work.
The colours in this collection came to me on the cusp of spring, in late January, early February.
A moment of transition, when nature rouses from its winter slumber.
Verdant whispers, promising possibility.
Colour that signals
the life within
Golden rays of early morning light awaken potential brimming within bare boughs and unfurnished forest floors.
Alerting moss on winter watch.
Fresh beads of chartreuse burst from tips of branches.
Burgeoning bulbs peep through pockets of damp soil.
A collection of warm, smooth, spearmint blue eggs await their debut.
As fronds of ferns unfurl,
and silvery lichen curls,
passageways within
beckon to begin.
The process
of making
I work in collage. Hand crafted. Analogue. Which begins with creating stacks of pages awash with calming colour. Gathering elements to play with.
In the next phase, I carve out proportions and position the layers until it feels like puzzle pieces slotting into place.
A grounded, rooted feeling will settle throughout my body. That’s it. Trust.
Finally, I stand back and observe.
Waking up, returning to reality. Sometimes, hours have passed without my awareness.
Often, a doorway has revealed itself on the page. It beckons. Step through.
And I am standing at the threshold of a new chapter. A fresh start.
Finding balance
in asymmetry
In these compositions, nothing is symmetrical.
This is because firstly, each piece is hand-cut and proportioned by eye, so they will never be machine-pristine.
Secondly, I am interested in the idea of creating harmony in asymmetry.
I think about how we might move through our lives expecting our story to fit into a buttoned-up template.
Perfectly graceful steps, in the correct sequence, along a straight path. Destinations reached in the most efficient manner. No stumbles, nor knee scuffs.
Of course, I don't need to tell you that it rarely works out that way.
But it is still possible to cultivate a sense of harmony in what appears to be irregular, uneven.
We may live off-kilter,
and still find a sense
of balance and alignment.
A Feng Shui
perspective
In the ancient practice of Feng Shui, greens, blues, and teal represent the Wood element. They enhance the New Beginnings and Wealth sections of the home.
These shapes and colours can be harnessed to turn the page to your next life chapter and allow fresh opportunities to flow.
Grounding greens
for sensitive souls
The greens in this collection contain a generous dose of yellow. This adds a grounding quality.
By utilising these grounding greens, we are bringing in some of the stable energy of the Earth element. At a moment in time when the world seems to be moving so fast, and the energy is intensifying.
See, experience, feel
Experience the quality of the materials and the exact colours before choosing your final pieces.
These samples are colour accurate giclée miniature prints, on the same sustainable bamboo paper as the full-sized artworks.
Borrow from a
botanical palette
When you're in need of the body and soul support that the forest offers, remember that you can borrow from nature's palette.
Utilising greens that work with your nervous system, and remind you that you are made of the same ingredients as all of nature.
